Keyman would be Jack Stauber's last public song of 2018. Keyman was teased on Plopscotch on November 11th, 2018, which shows an older version of the clay version of Jack's head seen in the video back when it was under development. The original version of Keyman was first available on Patreon on November 5th, 2018. The theory is often connected to Jack himself and him commonly being known only for his popular songs such as Buttercup. A similar theory to this one is that the song is about being known and remembered for only one thing, either good or bad. The lyric "wrote you a song, and now you're singing it wrong" could possibly be a reference to how the lyrics and meanings to Jack's songs are commonly misheard and misinterpreted. However, during the outro, Jack eventually claims that he wants to be called Keyman, possibly in fear of what the future could hold for him and his music. The chorus is possibly Jack singing and telling the listener to rewind and refine to find the trueness of the song instead of just fawning over the music. It is theorized that being called Keyman for jingling keys is a metaphor for his music being interpreted for simple moments. A theory about the song is that it is a portrayal of Jack Stauber himself, how his music is often misunderstood, as well as how he perceives his own music. The true meaning of the song is currently unknown, though there have been various interpretations of what the song could mean. Though the most famous scene from the music video would notably be the scene where Jack sings the opening verse with an unusual 16:9 screen ratio before grabbing the bottom letterbox and popping out at the viewer, with his head growing a giant clay version of himself. Though it was also notable for being less colorful and having more of a specific greenish color tone, most notably with the keys. The music video was very well liked for its psychedelic and hypnotic nature with its fast pacing and patterned visuals, it becoming one of Jack Stauber's most iconic and recognizable videos. The following extended version was also met with praise from fans, being liked for its new segments, them being noted for sounding unique to the original while being reminiscent of what it originally was, most notably with the piano segment, having a very medieval sound to it. The song was noted for its majestic sound and high vocals.
